Bloodbath in Bui as soldiers, separatist fighters fight to death

Over the past few days, Bui Division, North West region of Cameroon has been the scene of a series of incidents that have led to the death of many.

Unconfirmed sources claim over 25 soldiers have been killed in battle by separatist militias in the division and others are receiving medical care after being injured.

In addition to the killings and maimings, separatist fighters say they have captured several military gear and equipment. In a video shot in one of the localities in Bui Division, separatist fighters are seen displaying guns and bullets said to have been seized from the military.

They also displayed images of security officers they claimed to have killed before taking possession of the ammunition, urging government to send more soldiers to meet their demise.

The attacks by separatist fighters are believed to have been an indirect response to a series of government raids over the week that left many civilians dead and houses torched.

During one of these raids, government says its soldiers neutralised a separatist militia leader, ‘General’ Akwaba and some of his elements on May 24, 2021 in the Divisional headquarter, Kumbo.

Bui Division and Kumbo in particular have for years now been a hotspot for several bloody exchanges between the warring factions.

Despite the enormous damages and loss of life recorded, government and separatists have been unable to call a unified ceasefire or enter a peace deal.
