Reports say at least six workers of the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC), have been killed.

Witnesses told MMI that “the workers were attacked in their farms by separatist fighters and shot for failing to respect Ghost Town.”

Separatists fighting for an independent state called ‘Ambazonia’ in Cameroon’s Anglophone Regions have imposed a two-day lockdown — ahead of the Nation Youth Day celebrated on February 11th across the country.

Several persons have been injured, and other sources told MMI that the number of deaths could be more.

The injured victims have been rushed to the CDC Cottage Hospital in Tiko, where they are currently receiving treatment.

This is not the first time CDC workers have been killed or attacked by separatists.

Some of the US-based separatist ringleaders are notable for spearheading previous calls for the limbs of CDC workers who violate ghost town rules to be chopped.

Shock and consternation

Today’s separatist attack has left many panic-stricken within the CDC workers’ community in Tiko.

A video that MMI came across on social media showed many people, shocked and in consternation, gathered outside the said hospital.

A male voice could be heard commenting in the background: “Workers were attacked, some are already dead, confirmed, and some are still injured going to the theater. This is Cottage Hospital.”

The attack is coming barely one day to Youth Day celebrations in the country, an event which separatists have warned people in the English-speaking regions not to participate in.

Rumours of a lockdown continued spreading on the eve of the Youth Day celebrations and many towns in the English-speaking regions heeded to the lockdown calls on Friday, February 10.
