The Divisional Officer, DO, of Bamenda II in Mezam Division in Cameroon’s North West Region has sealed the ‘Don Simon’ bar, a drinking spot in Che street, Ntarinkon in Bamenda, where journalist Anye Nde Nsoh was shot and killed on Sunday night.
The decision comes two days after Anye was targeted and killed infront of the bar by Separatists, who have been for an independent state called ‘Ambazonia’
The doors of the leisure spot were sealed on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, on the orders of Manshang Nicolas, administrative officer of the area.
A note on the sealed structure read: “Sealed for non comformity with the rules and regulations in force, forceful removal of this seal exposes you to sanctions in accordance with provisions of the law.”
The Committee to Protect Journalists, CPJ, has urged the Cameroon government to investigate, prosecute killers of Journalist Anye Nde Nsoh, and not use death for propaganda.
Separatists have issued a statement claiming that Anye Nde was mistaken for someone else.
But the trade unions of Cameroon Journalists has maintained that the reporter for The Advocate Newspaper was targeted.
