A transportation crisis has hit Bomaka, a locality in Buea, South West region of Cameroon.
This follows a government ban on commercial motorcycles in the area.
The ban is reportedly affecting the local population negatively as they find it difficult to carry on with their daily activities.
“The inhabitants of Bomaka Buea are suffering” a local told MMI revealing that “this time around it is lnot lack of water, electricity, roads or network but lack of transportation means”.
Most inhabitants are forced to journey on foot for their normal activities, a stressful situation.
“Can you imagine that people in the quarters trek distances of over 40 minutes before reaching the roadside to take a taxi?” A resident wondered, lamenting that “the ban on the circulation of bikes is really a nightmare”.
Pleading on the administration to lift the ban, he noted that owners of tricycles have exploited the situation to milk money from the local population.
“Please let the ban on bikes be uplifted” the local cried out adding that, “to carry a traveler’s bag into the quarter is now very expensive because only tricycles can transport baggages”.
Government carried out the move citing it as part of measures to combat separatist activities in the locality. But like with other harsh methods, the local population continues to suffer most.
