After about a month without power supply for some areas of Checkpoint in Molyko-Buea, electricity has once again been reinstated.

The long awaited power supply was reinstated yesterday, November 18th, 2021, after the population had witnessed enormous amounts of losses in daily business activities, from where most of them earn their living.

In an interview with some checkpoint residents, yesterday, hours before the lights were reinstated, a barber informed us that the power shortage has stayed longer than a month for some areas in the same neighborhood.

He adds that he is living off his barbing saloon and the business was down as a result of the light outage.

Few hours before power returned, a barber told us that “We had planned a march slated for Tuesday, November 16th, 2021, but somehow the power company learned about it, they came and deceived us into abandoning the protest, with promise of repowering our neighborhood. We are yet to see that happen”.

In the same boat, a fish retailer stated that the power shortage is causing a disaster for her, “Look into my shop, you can see that my two fridges are open. All the fish I bought worth 30,000, sold some at give away, while about 5000 of the same fish got bad”.

She also complained of having lost her customers and perceives future challenges for her business as a result of the losses. “As am talking to you now, even if the power comes back, I don’t know where to get money to revamp my business, ” she said.
