Police in Buea have arrested four girls who teamed up to assault another girl whom they accused of slander.
The four girls, identified as Fai Christabel, Ngum Marie Noel, Ntaka Cassandra, and Ebamu Chantal, were arrested on Wednesday, April 3, a few days after they harassed and beat a girl named Kum Nadine.
They were arrested for “beating up another lady, Kum Nadine, for alleged gossip, which according to them created a rift and almost plunged their friendship into thorns of hell,” reported a local entertainment blog, Bella Powers Voice.
In a video that surfaced online a few days earlier, the four girls could be seen in a room beating and harassing the said Nadine, accusing her of having slandered them.
Aside from beating her, they also undressed, filmed her, and circulated videos of the act on social media.
On Friday morning, MMI encountered an apology message from one of the arrested girls. She said her name was Fai Christabel.
“Honestly speaking, I seriously regret what I did and I’m very sorry. I didn’t mean to do it. I only did it because I was angry. It was not planned,” she could be heard apologizing.
She and her peers are still pleading their case in police custody.
The incident came barely two months after a young girl in Likomba, identified as Kante Diane, was harassed, beaten and her nude pictures paraded on social media after she was accused of drugging and killing her six-month-old child.
But this turned out false and her persecutors were arrested and detained, while she was freed after also spending several hours in the police cell.
