Buea United Football Club made history on Saturday, June 29, by securing their first South West regional championship trophy with a decisive 4-2 victory over Best Stars Academy of Limbe.
The match, which was played at the Molyko Omnisport Stadium, propelled Buea United to represent the South West Region at the upcoming National Interpools, which will run from July 1 to July 15.
This achievement makes Buea United the second Buea-based club to qualify for the National Interpools in nearly 13 years, following in the footsteps of Mount Cameroon FC.
The club now shoulders the responsibility of elevating the region’s representation in the Elite Two Championship, currently home to Isle of Hope Sports Academy (ISOHSA), the lone club from the South West in this tier.
The South West Region’s presence in Cameroon’s top football tiers includes Victoria United in the Elite One and ISOHSA in the Elite Two.
Buea United’s upcoming challenge will involve competing against clubs from all ten regions of the country, vying for a coveted spot in the Elite Two Championship.
Saturday’s victory concluded a thrilling South West Regional championship season, which saw 309 goals scored across 103 matches.
Mukete Junior emerged as the season’s top scorer with 18 goals, while Ulysee Ledeoux scored the tournament’s lone hat-trick. Best Stars Academy’s goalkeeper, Baba Alma, was recognized as the Best Goalkeeper for the third consecutive year since 2021.
