The Population of Mbonjong, a locality in Kwanso village, Jakiri Subdivision yesterday took the boldest of steps by telling Ambazonian Fighters to their face that they were fed up with their activities in their village and wanted them out as soon as possible.
In a rather cordial exchange, some members of the Mbonjong community marched to the Amba camp, where they told the separatist fighters that their cowardice has costed the villagers dearly since 2017.
“When you guys started, we welcomed you with open arms, but what is transpiring now is simply unacceptable. The last time when the military came in here we suffered many losses. The military razed down our homes. They tortured some of us and have forced our wives and children to spend most of their nights in bushes. It may be better for you people because you sometimes have protections, which prevents bullets from penetrating your bodies. I want you to take a good look at this population and tell us if you will be happy if one morning you wake up to discover that they have all been crushed?” The village representative asked the fighters.
“Taking this to consideration, we as a community have unanimously decided that you guys leave us in peace. The truth is we are afraid and live in Constant terror… You guys go out to other villages and commit atrocities and when the military invades, you all escape and let the villagers suffer for your actions and because of your presence,” he continued.
Most of the fighters in the camp of Mbonjong are from Babessi, and the villagers opined that they should return to their respective areas where they could carry out their activities.
In their defense, the fighters mentioned that they had not committed any atrocities in Mbonjong, and that if they were all chased out, then some of the fighters who are of that community will equally be separated from their families.
The villagers were however hell-bent on chasing these fighters out of their land as they saw the presence of these fighters as a threat rather than security.
“You guys might not have committed any atrocities in this village particularly, but when you go out to different areas and do these acts, we are the ones here who feel the sting whenever the soldiers arrive,” added another person from the crowd.
After this unexpected frank and cordial discussion between the people of Kwanso and the Amba Fighters, the word is reaching us that they have now left the village as requested by the population and have relocated to Baba, a neighboring village in the Babessi Subdivision, in the Ngoketunjia Division.
