Former Presidential candidate, Hon Cabral Libii, has expressed frustration with Camair-Co, the national airline of Cameroon, after experiencing significant delays on a recent flight from Douala to Maroua.
Libii’s flight, initially scheduled for 12:15 PM, was postponed multiple times throughout the day without prior notification.
Despite providing his email and phone contact during booking, he was not informed of these changes in advance.
Libii shared that, after arriving at the airport for check-in at 11:00 AM, he was informed that the flight had been rescheduled to 4:00 PM.
Upon returning at 2:30 PM for formalities, he learned that the departure time had been pushed to 6:10 PM.
However, this was later moved to 7:30 PM, and eventually, to 12:30 AM.
In addition to his personal delay, he noted that other passengers, including those bound for Maroua and Bangui, were stranded in uncomfortable conditions.
“Many were in the unventilated waiting areas of Douala Airport, which lack air conditioning,” Libii wrote on his Facebook page, particularly highlighting the plight of mothers with young children who were visibly exhausted in the sweltering heat.
Libii requested that Camair-Co staff allow vulnerable passengers to access the VIP lounge, one of the few air-conditioned spaces in the airport, but was informed that such access required authorization and a fee of FCFA 40,000.
Frustrated, he emphasized the disparity between Camair-Co’s passenger service standards and the presence of government officials attending events elsewhere in the country.
Libii’s experience is shared by many who have used Camair-Co before.
Ako, a Cameroonian who has previously used the airline, confirmed that “Camairco can delay your flight even for days without prior information. They leave you stranded at the airport without any information.”
Despite these criticisms, Camair-Co is yet to issue a statement or improve on their services.
