The Cameroon Association of English speaking Journalists, CAMASEJ has crated a fun to cater for its members in distress.
The fund was launched at a press confab in Yaounde today. It is known as the Emergency Assistance Fund.
The raison d’être of the fund, CAMASEJ National President, Jude Viban said, is to assist pressmen in emergency health situations, provide legal support for those detained and those on exile.
The fund, he added, will be controlled by persons drawn from all chapters of the Association across the country.
The fund was born out of the burden of Journalists going though precarious situations with little or no assistance. The fund was launched with a base figure of 50,000 FCFA.
Other senior journalist at the launch equally made financial donations on the spot pledges raised the sum to over a million FCFA.
The launching today coincided with activities to mark the 2022 edition of the World Press Freedom Day.
