Journalists in Bamenda, chief town of the Northwest Region of Cameroon have celebrated World Press Freedom Day 2022.

They came out in their numbers to celebrate their day despite the challenges they face on daily basis.

The challenges range from no pay, harrassement by both government forces and separatist fighters, poor working conditions amongst other.

Speaking on a private owned radio station in Bamenda, Nditsembom Elvis Jr. Who is president of the Cameroon English Speaking Journalists Association, CAMASEJ Northwest said “If there is one thing Journalists in the region are celebrating, it is the fact that since the Anglophone Crisis started, no Journalist has been killed. Though we suffer alot, it is enough reason to celebrate because no Journalist has left us because of the war.”

Celebrated under the theme, “journalism Under Digital Siege, members of the Cameroon Journalists Trade Union, CJTU converged at the Northwest Cooperative Association, NWCA where they were taken around the structure and made to understand how coffee is produced in the region.

The Journalists were also schooled on Media Ethics and Violent Extremism by Dzeban Godlove of Draufsicht, Media and Violent Extremism by Christel Bay of HOFNA and Media Ethics and Journalism under Seige by Bamnjo Herman.

Worthy of note is the fact that two Journalism bodies though with almost the same members celebrated the day at two different places thereby raising the worry as to why they couldn’t come together and celebrated as one.

Members were not happy as they had to move from one part of the town in order to catch up with both activities marking the day.
