“No competition or championship in the world is worth the life of a person”. These are the words of Cameroon’s minister of sports Narcise Mouelle Kombi.

The president of Cameroon’s local organising committee (COCAN) for the organisation of African Football Championship has called on the Confederation of African Football to postponed the organisation of African Football Championship CHAN .This was during a meeting today Tuesday March 17th in Yaounde. Scheduled to run from April 4th to 25th,the minister of sports and physical education says 10 out of sixteen African countries to participate in the Championship have already been infected by coronavirus including the host country Cameroon.

Narcise Mouellle Kombi adds that organising the championship at this moment will present enormous logistics difficulties given that some countries have already closed their borders thereby making if difficult for players and supporters to travel to Cameroon.

The Confederation of African Football is expected to make a statement in the hours ahead concerning the organisation of CHAN.

Earlier, Morocco withdrew from the championship for health reasons.

Several other sporting events around the world have been suspended to limit the spread of the disease.
