Cameroon: Close to a dozen die in Boko Haram attack

At least 11 are reported dead and 26 injured in an attack Monday afternoon around the El Beid bridge in Fotokol in the Far North region of Cameroon.

The attack comes at a time when the Boko Haram terrorist sect is scaling up it’s insurgent activities on Cameroon and neighboring countries.

According to the International Crisis Group, the number of attacks have increased in the Far North in past years.
´´…from March 2014 to March 2016, Boko Haram carried out more than 400 attacks and incursions in Cameroon, as well as about fifty suicide bombings that left 92 members of security forces dead, injured more than 120 others and killed more than 1350 civilians,´´ said the group’s senior analyst for Central Africa.

Boko Haram was declared defeated in Cameroon in 2018 by President Paul Biya in a visit to the region during his campaign.

One day to the attack, the Minister of employment and Vocational Training who hails from the extreme region of Cameroon admitted the locality which has always been a political stronghold oft he Biya regime was neglected.
