The President of the Buea High Court in Cameroon’s South West region says a habeas corpus filed for journalist Samuel Wazizi constituted a “wrongful quotation of law”.
For this reason, the application has been rejected. This was today Thrusday 7th May in Buea where Wazizi reported for local station, CMTV before he was arrested.
This left several pressmen, family members and sympathisers of the journalist present disappointed as Wazizi was not in court as they expected.
In the meantime, lawyers defending the popular pidgin news broadcaster say the habeas corpus document will be reconstituted and resubmitted.
Samuel Wazizi has been held incommunicado since August 2019 on accusations of collaborating with separatist fighters.
He is one of many others journalists jailed in Cameroon for carrying out their work.
