Despite efforts of his legal team, Cameroon opposition leader, Prof Maurice Kamto is still under house arrest.
Restrained from leaving home for close to a month now, the Yaounde Court of First Instance has rejected the request of the MRC party leader’s lawyers, seeking to lift his house arrest.
Barrister Hippolyte Meli, head of the collective of lawyers for the defense of the September 22 demonstrators says he filed an application which was rejected for lack of urgency.
To him, Kamto is being subjected to obstruction of justice, as well as threats threats to his life and those of his family members.
Prof Kamto’s lawyers have hinted that they intend to appeal the decision of the president of the court.
The MRC party has criticised the house arrest, noting that till date, no official statement has been made about the arrest.
