Cameroon’s women’s handball team bounced back from two successive defeats at the ongoing World Women’s Handball Championship to defeat Paraguay 26–23 in yesterday’s encounter.

They are now 3rd in Group B, with two points, and have qualified for the next round of the competition.

Montenegro currently leads the group with six points, followed by Hungary with four, while at the bottom is Paraguay with no point.

In yesterday’s game, after a hard-fought first period that ended 12-12, Cyrielle Ebanga Baboga’s gang finally took the lead in the middle of the second period to finally win 26-23.

The victory brought renewed hope to the Cameroonian side, who started the competition with a severe 11-25 loss to Montenegro.

This was followed by another setback against Hungary 39-20 on December 2.

Cameroon is now the only African country in the ongoing World Women’s Handball competition that has won a game.

Senegal and Angola have a point each after drawing previous games, while Congo, who lost 31–26 to Argentina yesterday, are yet to have a point.

Senegal is bound to face China in its last group game today, while Congo clashes with Kazakhstan tomorrow as Angola faces Norway.

The 26th edition of the IHF World Women’s Handball Championship, scheduled from November 29 to December 17, 2023, is being organized by the International Handball Federation (IHF). Denmark, Norway, and Sweden are set to jointly host the event, marking the third occasion in handball history where the championship is co-hosted. This milestone also signifies the inaugural instance of such collaboration in Sweden and the first time the championship will unfold across three countries.
