Two Cameroon government Ministers have visited victims and areas ravaged by torrential rains, which caused the death of a Master’s student and damaged several buildings and vehicles on Friday, March 8.

This Monday morning, the Ministers of Secondary Education, Prof. Nalova Lyonga, and of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, extended the condolences of the Head of State to the family of Beyala Sylvain, the student who died in the disaster.

They also provided comfort and assurance to dozens of people whose homes were damaged by the rains.

The Ministers made an inspection tour of houses, offices, and schools that were severely affected by the rain.

“He died at home after furniture fell on him during the heavy rains last Friday, March 8,” a MINAT statement read.

Some of the structures damaged include GBHS Etoug Ebe, GBPHS Yaounde, Lycée General LeClerc, the Efulan Divisional Officer’s office, among others.

At GBHS Etoub Ebe, MINAT says the storm ripped off the roofs of four buildings. This affected 23 classrooms and 10 were non-operational on Monday, affecting the education of over 2,000 students.

“The interministerial delegation comforted the Principals and students of the schools and gave some recommendations on reconstructing the damaged buildings and accommodating the learners,” a joint statement from the two Ministries said.

Minister Atanga Nji of MINAT assured people whose homes were destroyed that they will be repaired in line with the government’s disaster management policy victims.

The Ministers were accompanied on the tour by the Governor of the Center Region, Naseri Paul Bea, and some top-ranking officials in the two Ministries.
