Cameroon Gov’t offers 65k to 75 nationals repatriated from Tunisia

The Cameroon government has offered 65,000 francs to each of the 75 nationals repatriated from Tunisia, to help them set up income generating ventures at home.

The 75 migrants were brought home on April 6 following a government decision to repatriate 181 citizens in Tunisia who are willing to flee from the xenophobic violence in Tunisia.

Upon their arrival at the Yaounde Nsimalen Airport last week, they were kept at a temporary facility where State services attended to them before they reunited with their families.

The 75 are the first repatriated set of 181 Cameroonians in distress in Tunisia.

Migrants from sub-Saharan African countries have been subjected to physical and emotional attacks and discrimination in Tunisia for nearly two months now, after Tunisia’s President Kais Saied blamed black African migrants for rising criminality in the country.

He also said Sub-Saharan African migrants trooping into the country was an attempt to change the country’s demographic composition.

His remarks were condemned as xenophobic.
