A suspected conman, Eyafa Jacques is being detained at the General Delegation for National Security, DGSN in Yaoundé.
He is accused of impersonating the Director of Civil Cabinet at the Presidency in an attempt to extort money from international bodies and heads of state.
The suspect is said to have also been in contact with the Presidents of Niger and Mali, using the same impersonated alias. At the time he was fished out, reports say he was in the process of demanding the sum of 300,000 US Dollars (over 162 million FCFA) from an American NGO.
He was reportedly caught after the Nigerien Presidency called the Director of Civil Cabinet at the Presidency in Yaoundé to confirm a rendezvous but found out there was none and they had been chatting with a conman all along.
The number was identified and surprisingly, traced to the Kondengui prison. A search of the facility would later reveal the perpetrator had been an inmate incarcerated since 2018 for similar crimes.
He was transferred to the DGSN for further questioning, where security officers found out his numerous dealings and impersonating activities.
