Cameroon last week marked a major milestone in its education modernisation efforts with the official opening of an Intelligent Classroom, a state-of-the-art digital learning environment designed to support teachers and improve student engagement through advanced educational technology.

The classroom, donated by global education technology company, Promethean, was inaugurated during a ceremony attended by Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute; the Minister of Secondary Education; senior government officials; students; educators and international partners.

The initiative forms part of the Ministry of Secondary Education’s broader strategy to digitalise Cameroon’s education sector, expand access to modern learning tools and improve educational equity across the country.

The collaboration bringing together government and technology partners was facilitated by the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, CWEIC.

The organisation’s Chairman, Lord Marland, attended the launch to support the initiative and its role in strengthening educational and technological cooperation.

speaking at the launching ceremony, Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute said: “Education is the foundation of our nation’s future. Initiatives such as the Intelligent Classroom demonstrate Cameroon’s commitment to equipping our young people with the digital skills necessary to succeed in the modern world”.

The Minister of Secondary Education, Prof Nalova Lyonga, noted that: “This initiative reflects our strategic commitment to the digitalisation of Cameroon’s education system. By introducing innovative learning technologies into our classrooms we are expanding opportunity, strengthening teaching and improving learning outcomes for our students.”

For Dr. Simon Leung, Chairman of Promethean, his organisation was “…honoured to support Cameroon’s vision for modern education. This intelligent classroom represents not only advanced technology but a new model of teaching and learning designed to empower educators and inspire students.”

Meanwhile, Lord Marland, Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise & Investment Council, remarked that his organisation was “…proud to have helped facilitate this partnership. Education innovation and international collaboration are essential to supporting the next generation of leaders and strengthening the Commonwealth community.”

The Intelligent Classroom integrates interactive display technology, digital learning platforms and AI-supported tools that allow teachers to deliver dynamic lessons and enable students to actively participate in the learning process.

Education officials say the classroom serves as a demonstration model for future digital classroom expansion as Cameroon continues to modernise its education system.
