Cameroonians have poured out streams of positive reactions after the Indomitable Lions’ spectacular win against the Swallows of Burundi at the Roumde Adjia stadium on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

They kept Burundi out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations following their 3-0 win.

Millions of Cameronians who watched the crucial game were not disappointed. On and offline, their satisfaction with the Indomitable Lions’ was glaring.

As the game ended last evening, shouts of celebration and excitement echoed from houses, snack bars, and the roadsides.

Reaction, jubilations!

“We move! African Cup of Nations, here we come!” exclaimed Lety LK. “Where are those people from Burundi that I saw online making noise that they are not scared of us?” Lety furthered.

To Epinge Ramesh, an African Nations Cup (AFCON) tournament without Cameroon was unthinkable.

“It was a great game. Congratulations to the Lions!” William Smith reacted.

Some Cameroonians attributed yesterday’s victory to Andre Onana’s blissful saves. The Manchester United keeper stopped several shots from Burundi strikers and succeeded in conceiving no goal in the game.

Acha Peggy termed Andre Onana the “Moses of the match”. Meanwhile,
Bela Nkwenchi said, “Onana, we are proud of you, Keep up the great work. You defended your title. Congratulations to you all.”

The first half of the game was quite tough for the Indomitable Lions, with Burundi mounting a strong defence and a swift attack line that made several attempts at a goal.

“With what I saw in the first half, we are not ready for AFCON. It was André Onana who saved us this evening,” Alexander Song commented.

The game’s second half quickly raised the hopes of the Indomitable Lions after midfielder Bryan Mbeumo slotted the first goal in the 46th minute. Christopher Wooh scored the second goal in the 59th, while team captain Vincent Aboubakar crowned the scoring with the third goal two minutes into stoppage time.

Cameroon will be participating in the 34th edition of the AFCON in Ivory Coast for the 21st time. The country emerged on top of Group C at the qualifiers with 7 points, qualifying for the competition alongside group member Namibia, who had 5 points.
