Cameroon’s military has announced reinforcements in Kotserehe, in the Mayo-Sava Division of the Far North Region, following a Boko Haram attack that killed two people, including the village chief, and left dozens of homes destroyed.
Brigadier General Joseph Nouma, commander of the 4th Joint Military Region (RMIA4), visited the affected community on October 20, 2026, accompanied by senior military and gendarmerie officers, as well as the Divisional Officer of Mora.
The attack occurred during the night of October 17. According to information provided by local authorities, nearly 30 houses were set ablaze and livestock was stolen during the assault.
During a working session with local officials, the military delegation reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting civilians and combating the Boko Haram insurgency.
Reinforcements were decided on the ground to strengthen security in the area.
Mora Mayor Chetima Hamidou called for increased security measures, urging authorities to reinforce military posts in Kotserehe, Malika and Godjimdele.
He also advocated the rehabilitation of posts in Kassa, Guirbala and Kangaleri, alongside the establishment of new security positions in Igawa Doulo and Gazla.
The mayor had visited the victims on October 19, distributing essential supplies, including clothing fabric, sleeping mats, buckets, cups and sandals.
Nouma, who took command of the 4th Joint Military Region on August 14, 2026, said the visit underscored the military’s proximity to affected communities and its commitment to the fight against terrorism.
The attack highlights continuing security challenges in Cameroon’s Far North Region, where Boko Haram has carried out repeated assaults on communities, targeted civilians and destroyed property, deepening insecurity and humanitarian concerns.
