An 85-year-old sick woman whose name MMI got as Mami Florence Yongla has suffered harassment at the hands of the Cameroon military. She was arrested and later released, without any justification.
Mami Yongla was arrested on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, in Sang, a neighborhood in Bali, Mezam division of North West region by some Cameroonian soldiers.
Reports say she was on her to Church for lent service when she was taken into custody by state-armed men in front of her house.
Locals say the woman who is a member of the Christian Women Fellowship, (CWF) of PC Sang, is a sick woman, wondering what crime she had committed to be brutally taken away.
“Mami Florence Yongla an 85-year old sick grandmother was arrested today morning Wednesday 8 of March 2023 as she struggled to go for her morning lent service at P.C sang in Bali,” an eyewitness told MMI.
The source adds that “Her medication and bible were thrown and she was rough handled and taken to an unknown destination”
Though no reasons have been advanced for the act, locals suspect it could be connected to the fact that her son is a separatist fighter.
However, critics wonder why an old woman should be held responsible for the actions of a mature son.
“Her only crime is that her son is an Amba.” he went on.
“Do children ask their parents before joining Amba?” he wondered.
It should be noted that at the moment, no one knows where Mami Florence Yongla was taken to as no official statement has been made.
This is not the first time, state forces are targeting parents of suspected Ambazonia separatist fighters.
It is worthy to recall that parents and close family members of Separatist ‘General’ No Pity and many others are still held in detention for similar reasons.
