Cameroon Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, has ordered an investigation into Aboubakar Ousmane Mey, after he featured as a guest on Equinoxe TV, one of Cameroon’s prominent private media.

Atanga Nji accused Ousmane Mey of making inflammatory statements and inciting insurrection during a political program aired on June 29, 2025.

In an official document marked “Très Urgent” and addressed to the Minister of Communication, Atanga Nji stated that Mey “made defamatory remarks against republican institutions.”

The remarks in question were made during the program “La vérité en face”, where Mey—affiliated with the Alliance Nationale Camerounaise—allegedly warned authorities not to obstruct what he described as a planned uprising against the current regime. The document quotes Mey as saying the plan “is already refined and 80% complete, and nothing can stop it from going all the way.”

The Cameroon minister also cited Mey’s past accusations, specifically that the ministry had physically assaulted a female member of the OFRDPC, a women’s wing of the ruling party in the Mezam division.

“The Ministry of Territorial Administration has ordered an investigation under the coordination of administrative authorities so that he fully answers for his repeated calls to insurrection,” the Cameroon minister announced, citing the seriousness of these claims.

This response is consistent with the Minister’s previous pattern of swiftly labeling public criticism as a threat to public order. The communiqué emphasizes that Mey’s remarks, both on June 29 and previously on other platforms, represent “serious threats to public order that cannot be tolerated.”

Copies of the directive were sent to several national institutions, including the Presidency’s Civil Cabinet (Minetat/SGPR), the Secretariat of State for Defence (SED), the National Police (DGSN), regional governors, and the National Communication Council (CNC).
