Governor of the North West Region of Cameroon
North West Governor, Lele Lafrique Tchoffo Deben Adolph has handed five 12.5Kg bags of rice, Packets of seasoning cubes, hand sanitizer, buckets, and the sum of four hundred thousand francs to ex separatist fighters at the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration Center in Bamenda.
The items were distributed to the center on Saturday, October 02, 2021 during a visit by the regional authorities following the death of two ex-combatants Wamely Sanda Justice and Tabeh Ekwebu killed at the Ntambang Integrated Health Center recently under unclear circumstances.
During the event, the new chief of the center, Kum Henry said, ” their death has brought immense sadness to all of us in the DDRC and we are yet to come to terms with the loss.”
On his part, Governor Lele said the matter is under investigation, “all measures have been taken to come out with the results of the investigation. They went to the hospital, we don’t know what happened in between but they are no more. Their families are waiting for the bodies in Ako to give them a befitting burial.”
In another move to appease the ex-combatants, the mayor of Bamenda II council, Peter Chenwi said the sum of two hundred thousand francs will be made available for those preparing to sit in for the Government Certificate Examinations, GCE and another two hundred thousand francs for their upkeep.
One thing that could not hide was the sad faces the repentant separatist fighters carried throughout the event.
The question as to when they will leave the center and to where was raised by one of the inmates, a question that was received with thunderous applause from the others.
The Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration Center, (DDRC) was created by President Paul Biya to accommodate separatist fighters who listen to his calls for them to drop their weapons.
