Julius Malema urges Cameroon to sit up after coups in Gabon and Niger.
Julius Sello Malema, an anti-apartheid icon and staunch critic of African dictators, has pleaded with Cameroon not to disappoint the continent.
“Cameroon, please do not disappoint us; we are waiting,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter, hours after the military seized power from Gabon’s president Ali Bongo.
It is unclear whether Malema’s Tweet is a direct call for the Cameroonian military to take over power from Cameroon’s 90-year-old sit-tight leader. But it seems President Biya who has been in power for over forty years is already prepared for any eventuality, as he quickly appointed new military and defence officials on Wednesday
Here are some reactions to Malema’s post:
“Thank you, my leader. I’m hoping the Cameroon military will gather the courage to face their front like their West African neighbours have been doing. Grand Pa Paul Biya must go,” wrote the Oracle
Eri Oluwa says: “Yebo yes. We are waiting for the drum, we are waiting for the music, our ancestors have called. Let’s get the party started. A child born in 1982 is too old not to have another brother. It’s time to give birth so that we can welcome the new baby.”
“Paul Biya will leave voluntarily between April 1 and June 30, 2024. He is on a special spiritual assignment to usher in the total economic liberation of #Africa and the #NewWorldOrder. Yes, he caused the crisis but for the greater interest of the #Continent, let him stay,” said Nkwame Mukong
Julius Malema is a South African politician who is a Member of Parliament and the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, a far-left party that he founded in 2013. He was formerly the President of the African National Congress Youth League from 2008 until his expulsion from the party in 2012.
