Cameroon road transporters threaten indefinite strike action

An association of road transporter trade unions in Cameroon has threatened to embark on an indefinite strike action from Monday April 6th 2020 if the government continues to give a deaf ear to their call for dialogue.

In a letter addressed to the Prime minister Joseph Dion Ngute March 30th 2020, the transporters lament actions of forces of law and order on the road to compel them to respect measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Cameroon.

The trade unions recall that they had earlier written to the PM on the 23th of March demanding an audience for the two parties to dialogue a peaceful way of implementing the measures to no avail. They regret that government has since then no given due consideration to their call.

The ransporters say they are standing against a measure prohibiting over loading as the price of fuel remains high. Cameroonians think if the government fails to dialogue with the transporters before April 6th, their strike might further paralyze the economy that is already suffering a big blow given several cases of coronavirus that have forced some enterprises to shutdown.
