Many have reacted shockingly, to a viral video of a woman, dancing at the funeral of her husband-to-be’s funeral in her wedding dress.
The dramatic scene took place on February 3, 2023, in Okoa Maria, a small village in Mbankomo, Centre Region of Cameroon.
The video shows the grieving lady dressed as thought it was her wedding day, with her wedding veil — and dancing non-stop.
She did so, while villagers watched in dismay — and without interruptions.
Social media users have been reacting different — with one of them describing it as a ‘normal ritual’ usually carried out to prevent the bride to be from losing another husband in future.
To Kate Djiaha, this will go a long way to “…break the cycle that could cause all the young lady’s future husbands to prematurely die before the big day.”
Like Kate, Rachelle Mobby says, it is not the first time that this is not a novelty. “I had a similar story in my family. A relative was supposed to get married and the partner died a few days before the date, but everything was all ready for the wedding. His wife had to put on her wedding dress to bury her husband,” she explained.
But other social media users like Sylvana Audrey thinks it’s wrong.
“Marriage is between two live people,” she said, adding that, “even during wedding celebration in the church we say
Felicia Enzema on her part believes the woman is simply, “… going through depression without anyone realizing. Her parents have to take her to a real man of God for prayers after her husband’s funeral.”
The practice however remains a strange one to most Cameroonians who believe marriage is between two people who are alive.
