Cameroon’s Ministry of Transport has signed an agreement with French company Lagardère Travel Retail to establish duty-free shops at the Douala and Yaounde-Nsimalen international airports.
The deal was formalised on Wednesday, Sept. 11, between Aéroports du Cameroun (ADC S.A.) and Lagardère Travel Retail Group in the presence of Transport Minister Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe.
Thomas Owona Assoumou, General Manager of ADC S.A., signed on behalf of the Ministry, while Sounou Bousso, President of Lagardère Travel Retail Group, signed on behalf of the company.
The contract is expected to enhance economic activity at the airports.
“We are committed to contributing to the ambitious project to renovate Douala airport by rethinking not only commercial spaces but the entire passenger experience,” said Sounou Bousso.
“Our goal is to make Cameroon’s airports dynamic hubs, where every traveller feels both welcome and valued.”
Owona Assoumou added that the deal would generate new income streams for the Ministry.
“There are levies they are going to pay: occupancy and revenue. Summarily, we should expect a 20% envelope on sales of local products and a shared quota on the net income,” he said.
Lagardère Travel Retail operates duty-free shops and restaurants in airports, offering travellers a range of goods and services.
