Cameroon got its International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Olympic pre-qualification campaign off to a winning start on Wednesday, defeating Guinea 104-74.
Fabien Ateba was named the MVP of the game, scoring 27 points, grabbing 2 rebounds, and making 5 steals.
The Cameroonian side was dominant from the start, leading by as many as 20 points in the first half. Ateba was the catalyst for the Cameroonian offence, hitting five of his seven three-pointers in the first half. He also had four steals in the first half, helping to disrupt the Guinean offence.
Guinea tried to make a run in the second half, but Cameroon was able to maintain its lead. Ateba continued to be a force on both ends of the floor, and the Cameroonians’ defence forced a number of turnovers.
With the win, Cameroon moves to 1-0 in the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualification. The Cameroonians will next face Tunisia Today.
The Cameroonians will need to continue to play strong defence and get contributions from multiple players if they want to make a run in the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualification.
