Cameroonian national stabbed to death in Germany

A Cameroonian national, William Chedjou, was stabbed to death in the German capital Berlin on July 11, 2024, the Cameroonian Embassy in Berlin said.

Chedjou, 37, was killed during a fight over a parking space in the neighbourhood of Gesundbrunnen.

He had a trivial disagreement with a 29-year-old man of German-Turkish nationality in a public parking lot, which escalated into a violent altercation.

The victim was stabbed in the stomach and despite the prompt intervention of emergency services of the police, he died at the hospital due to severe injuries.

Cameroon’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany has expressed shock and sadness over the incident and offered condolences to the bereaved family.

“Upon receiving the distressing news, I immediately contacted the German authorities, particularly those in Berlin, to gather more information on the incident,” the Ambassador stated in a July 12 release.

“I have been informed that the alleged perpetrator has been apprehended, and a criminal investigation is currently underway.”

The Ambassador assured the Cameroonian community that the Embassy is closely monitoring the progress of the investigation and the subsequent legal proceedings.

He called for calm and reflection among his compatriots, urging them to await the outcome of the official investigation before taking any action.

“This is a time of great sorrow for our community. We must unite in our grief and support one another through this tragic period,” the Ambassador said.

“Let us remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course, ensuring that justice is served for our fallen compatriot.”
