A Cameroonian-born consultant neurosurgeon has been elected Secretary General of the Continental Association of Africa Neurosurgical Society.
Dr Ignatius Esene,was elected November 11, 2022 in Nairobi Kenya during the African Neurosurgery
Congress.
In a reaction, following his election as scribe of the continental body he said “It is an honor for me to serve Africa as the Secretary General of the Continental Association of African Neurosurgical Societies”
He added that he is “… very optimistic about the future of African Neurosurgery”
Before his election, he was previously Chair of Young African Neurosurgeons Forum whose tenure he said is to have ended following his new status.
The medical expert is the Current Chair of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies and Deputy Editor-In-chief of the Journal of Global Neurosurgery.
WHO IS DR IGNATIUS ESENE?
Dr Ignatius Esene obtained his Medical Degree from Cameroon and was awarded the Academy of Research and Higher Education scholarship to undertake a Masters degree in Public Health in Brussels, Belgium which he obtained with a distinction.
He then proceeded to Cairo for his residency in Neurosurgery. He obtained a Masters in Neurosurgery/Neurology with another distinction and a Doctoral Degree, Ph.D in Neurological Surgery under the aegis of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies and the auspices of the Cameroonian government.
He equally holds Postgraduate Certificates/Diplomas in Health Economics, International Health, Advanced Research Methods, Pediatric Neuro-Oncology, Skull Base and Neuro-Vascular Surgery. He has received a myriad of accolades including travel grants and a manifold of scholarships
With seventy one publications in his name he is a Senior Lecturer at
