Cameroonian hip-hop artist Ndukong Godlove Nfor, professionally known as Jovi, has encouraged his followers to participate in the upcoming 2025 presidential election by registering and voting.

“2025 is the year of the presidential elections. REGISTER and VOTE. A better future for our beautiful country is our duty!!!” Jovi posted on his official Facebook page, which has over 300,000 followers.

To reach a broader audience, the rapper shared the message in both English and French. His post featured an image of the Reunification Monument located in Ngoa-Ekele, Yaoundé—a symbolic landmark in Cameroonian history.

First Cameroonian Musician to Publicly Advocate for Voter Registration

Jovi is among the first prominent musicians in Cameroon to publicly urge fans to take part in the electoral process. Known for his socially conscious lyrics, the rapper often expresses national unity and civic responsibility in his music. In his track “God Don Kam,” he asserts: “I am not an Anglophone nor a Francophone. I am a Cameroonian.”

His fan base, known as the Mboko Gang, has also engaged in community outreach and humanitarian efforts, reinforcing the artist’s influence beyond music.

Public Reactions Highlight Support for Civic Engagement

The rapper’s call to action was met with positive reactions from fans. One follower, Christians Njongoue, commented: “Thank you very much; at least you are true and advise your fans. Other artists are afraid to take a stand, yet #Rap is basically about denouncing the ills of society.”

Another commenter, Bryan Sama, added: “This is exactly what youths should be preaching. Not useless beef on social media when there are more important things for the future of our fatherland.”

Cameroon Presidential Election Set for October 2025

Cameroon’s presidential election is expected to take place in October 2025. Several opposition figures have already announced their candidacies, including Maurice Kamto, Akere Muna, Cabral Libii, and Joshua Osih.

President Paul Biya, who has held office since 1982, has not confirmed whether he will seek another term. However, the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) has publicly called on him to run again.

As the election approaches, public figures like Jovi are using their platforms to promote voter participation, signaling an increasing awareness of civic duties within the entertainment industry.
