Cameroon’s women’s 4 x 100m relay team won the gold medal at the Jeux de la Francophonie in Kinshasa setting a new national record in the process.
The team of Marlyse Ahanda, Njock Eunice, Mireille Ntoumi, and Brigitte Ntsama finished the race in 43.93 seconds, breaking the previous record of 44.08 seconds set in 2017.
The Congolese team won the silver medal, while the team from the Democratic Republic of the Congo won the bronze.
This is the second gold medal for Cameroon at the Jeux de la Francophonie, following the victory of Emmanuel Eseme in the men’s 100m on Friday.
The Jeux de la Francophonie are a multi-sport event held every four years for athletes from countries where French is spoken. The 2023 games are being held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, from July 28 to August 6.
The victory of Cameroon’s women’s 4 x 100m relay team is a major achievement for the country and a sign of its growing strength in athletics. The team’s performance will be sure to inspire other Cameroonian athletes as they compete in the remaining events at the Jeux de la Francophonie.
