Cameroonians express dismay over French court ruling on Coq Sportif-FECAFOOT row

The French Court’s decision in favor of the French skit supplier Le Coq Sportif has sparked mixed feelings among a good number of Cameroonians.

On November 3, 2022, a French Court, ordered the maintenance of contractual relations between the company LCS (Le Coq Sportif) international and the Cameroon Football Federation.

They equally went ahead to instruct that the sum of 3,000 euros( about 2 million FCFA) should be paid to Le Coq Sportif by the Cameroon Football Federation.

Reacting to the above-mentioned decision, some Facebook users expressed their dissatisfaction, indicating it is a form of colonialism.

“A state does not impose its laws on another State. Look at the decision of the Autonomous Port of Douala still judged in this same French Court. Has the state of our country even responded to this masquerade?” asked Daniel, a Facebook user.

According to another user, the termination of a contract can be decided by one party : “… a contract is an agreement that creates obligations assuming an agreement of will between at least two people. Termination may be decided by mutual agreement or by one of its parties. So… We cannot give in,” he stated.

Meanwhile, others expressed their continuous support for the president of the fecafoot, Samuel Eto’o Fils. It is the case with this user who says: “Our unwavering support for FECAFOOT in its struggle for sovereignty. Thanks to Samuel ETO’O for the call to order at FECAFOOT since taking office.”

Other users went ahead to declare that they “… want the One All Sports jersey. On our premises, the Coq Sportif will be boycotted. “

It should be noted that the Cameroon Football Federation, on the same day, appealed the French Court’s decision stating that fecafoot must respect the contract with Le Coq Sportif till December 31, 2023.

Latest reports however have it that despite fecafoot’s appeal, Le Coq Sportif has announced that the “real” Indomitable Lions’ jerseys for Qatar 2022 will be sold from Monday, November 8, 2022.

FECAFOOT on its part has invited Cameroonians to purchase their One All Sports jersey on Saturday, 10 am at the Douala Grand Mall and 5 pm at Playce Yaounde, in the presence of Samuel Eto’o Fils.
