Following numerous reports of mass foreigner arrests in Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon’s Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea has now confirmed 46 Cameroonians will be deported.
Ambassador Desiré Jean Claude Owono Menguele however maintains that the deportation has nothing to do with any xenophobic agenda against Cameroonians.
“The Cameroonians on the deportation list,” he says “are part of hundreds of other internationals arrested for illegal immigration.”
Desiré Jean Claude Owono Menguele added that Cameroonian residents in the country with legal documents have been released by the Equatoguinean authorities according to The Guardian Post Newspaper.
“There is no hunting of Cameroonians here to the best of my knowledge… The Equatoguinean authorities have said if there are claims they will be examined favorably if we bring proof,” he stressed.
Ambassador Desiré Jean Claude Owono also said that the embassy has plans laid out to visit detention centers in Malabo and Bata to bring aid to Cameroonians still detained.
