Andre Onana was slammed a one-year suspension from all related activities by UEFA for having failed a doping test sometime last year. The footballer promised to appeal the ruling, and today the Court of Arbitration for Sports will be hearing the appeal.
Reports on BBC however say that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the hearing will be done by video conference. The ruling is equally expected to take a considerable period of time to be made.
Since the ban by UEFA, Onana has pleaded not guilty to willingly taking a banned product to cheat. He maintains that he had mistakenly used a medication meant for his spouse and that it was out of the footballing period.
The hearing will be going on at a time when English Premier League side Arsenal has shown interest in the 25-year-old Cameroonian.
Arsenal is interested in signing Onana on a permanent deal from his Dutch club, Ajax, and a decision on the transfer may depend heavily on the result of the outcome of the appeal by CAS.
