Chad pours out 943 billion FCFA to combat COVID-19

Chad is the latest African country to take a series of measures to combat the coronavirus.

The country’s President, Idriss Deby took to twitter to list some of these measures explaining how they will unfold.

“The state will take over the electricity bills of the nation every company for domestic uses for three months” he said.

“The state will take charge of all water consumption… Throughout the territory for six months from April 1, 2020” he added.

With regards to food emergency, the sum of 25 billion francs CFA he revealed “will be mobilised to strengthen the stocks of the National Food Security Office.

As part of social measures, the government of Chad, President Idriss said will establish a Youth Entrepreneurship Fund as soon as possible ” with Chadian banks for 30 billion of our francs.”

In addition to making tax concessions for economic operators, the President also announced plans to improve on the health sector, making it better prepared to combat the virus.
“In addition to the equipment i decided to immediately recruit 1,638 health workers whose files were pending before the civil service.”

Announcing special allowances for health workers that will be directly in charge of combatting COVID-19, Idriss Deby says “all the projects and actions … Induce a significant cost of 943billion FCFA.”

So far Chad has 23 cases of the virus with two recoveries and no death.
