Chadian President, Idriss Deby reacts to Dschang accident

In solidarity with the people of Cameroon, Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno has sent his condolences to the bereaved families of the 53 lives that were lost in the accident on the dangerous Dschang Hill.

The statesman took to his Twitter account and wrote: “Following the accident which left some fifty dead in western Cameroon, I extend my sincere condolences to President Paul Biya and to the grieving families. I wish the wounded a speedy recovery”.

Idriss Deby is the lone world leader, other than Biya, who has reacted to the shocking incident that has left many families in Cameroon reeling their bad luck.

The accident in Dschang occurred when a 70 Seats bus filled with passengers collided with a truck transporting illicit fuel. The fuel exploded, causing almost complete calcination of all 53 victims that were involved in the accident.

Like always, the Minister of Transport has extended his condolences to the families of the victims and promised to open an investigation into the tragedy. It is important here to note that there have been at least 15 different road accidents across the country, of which two have been most pronounced because of the number of casualties. Need we be reminded of the accident at Ndikiminiki early this year which saw at least 39 passengers meet their end.

Estimated figures of the casualty from road accidents this year stand at least 103 persons, and we’re not even in February. Most of these accidents have been caused by the terrible state of the highways, non-compliance with driving rules as well as overloading of vehicles from departure points.
