The president of the Fecacyclisme Honoré Yossi has confirmed that 17 people have been injured after a bus of Chantal Biya International Cycling Tour was involved in an accident today.
The incident resulted to the disruption of the competition which started over 48 hours ago.
In a release following the incident, the president of the Fecacyclisme wrote:
“The President of the Cameroon Cycling Federation and President of the Central Organizing Committee of the 18th edition of the Grand Prix International Cyclist Chantal Biya informs the public that a traffic accident occurred on September 29, 2018 at 10:30 at the place called Memiam on the Mbalmayo- Zoetele (Ngolbang) axis.
“A “Coaster” type bus carrying riders from the teams of Rwanda, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast made a road exit in a bend and overturned. 17 victims were immediately rushed by caravan ambulances to the Mbalmayo District Hospital where they were cared for by a team of doctors and nurses.
“According to the doctors who carried out the radiology on the victims, there are 15 runners, one (01) race commissioner and one (01) driver.
- No deaths have been recorded
- The days of the victims are not in danger.
- Victims suffer minor injuries.
- Radiology performed on the victims show no grave injuries.
- The Rwandan and Burkinabe teams left the hospital and returned to Yaounde for observation.
- The Ivorian team has decided to continue the competition.
- The race commissioner Damien Tekou victim in this accident remains under medical observation. His days are not in danger.
- The competition continues for the other runners, including the yellow jersey.
