A Chinese woman narrowly escaped death after falling from the top floor of a storey building in Akwa, Douala.
The identity of the woman remains undisclosed as investigations into her fall unfold.
Details that emerged revealed that she had been pushed by her partner, with whom she shared her living space.
Eyewitnesses at the scene recounted the surreal moment when they witnessed the woman plummeting from a window, initially mistaking her for a bird.
“We were all here having a peaceful time until we saw what looked like a bird coming down from the top of this building before realizing it was a human being, a Chinese lady we know nothing about,” one witness recounted.
The circumstances surrounding the incident have left the community troubled, as the victim was reportedly living alone in her apartment, and her background remained largely unknown to the neighbors.
Eyewitnesses expressed deep sadness and confusion, struggling to comprehend the motivations behind such a drastic act.
“I really can’t explain what exactly is this nor what happened. Nobody knows her since she’s Chinese and was living alone in her apartment. We don’t know what might have prompted her to commit suicide. It’s really sad,” added the eyewitness.
Law enforcement swiftly responded to the incident, with police officers arriving at the scene to initiate investigations into the circumstances leading to the woman’s fall.
The survivor has been transported to Laquintini Hospital, where she is currently receiving medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the woman’s partner, identified as the alleged perpetrator, has been apprehended by the police and is currently undergoing questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
There has been so far, no reaction from the Chinese community in Cameroon so far, and China’s diplomatic missions in the country have also not commented yet on the issue.
