Chris Anu, a prominent Ambazonia separatist leader based in the US, has in a statement “banned” the ceremony to screen a documentary film spotlighting President Paul Biya’s 41 years in power.
According to a program released by Peter Mafany Musonge, South west regional leader of the ruling CPDM party, the exhibition is scheduled for today, September 19, at the Molyko stadium.
Anu, a self proclaimed President of the Ambazonia Interim Government, says the documentary is a mockery to the English-speaking Cameroonians whom he referred to as Ambazonians.
“The Ambazonia Interim Government unequivocally bans the exhibition of ‘Paul Biya, a Great Statesman with a Prodigious Destiny’ documentary film that the ruling CPDM plans to exhibit in Buea on September 19th,” reads a statement signed by Chris Anu.
He further argues that: “This event is not just an affront, but a mockery of the Ambazonian people, who have fought for over eight years to free themselves from the same CPDM regime.
He accused CPDM elites of the South West region of using the exhibition, “to project themselves for notice, power, and money”.
Stating that their dream state of Ambazonia has nothing in common with President Paul Biya, he claimed armed militants of the struggle have been instructed to disrupt the event.
In what appeared to be a response to Chris Anu’s threats, security forces descended on the population Wednesday, September 18, carrying out indiscriminate arrests.
Dozens of locals in Molyko, the student residential area, were arrested and are reportedly detained at the Molyko and Buea police stations.
