Civilians are not a target – United Kingdom condemns Buea bombings during Mt Cameroon Race

The British High commissioner to Cameroon, Christian Dennys-McClure has on behalf of the UK condemned the attack on civilians in Buea, South West Region of Cameroon.

“The UK ?? condemns the bombings against the civilian population during the Mt Cameroon mountain race in #Buea yesterday.” The diplomat wrote on Twitter.

The attack which took place during the 28th Edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope, led to at least 19 people injured including children.

“Civilians are not a target and the warring parties must respect human rights,” Mr Dennys-McClure added.

The Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which was detonated as the race commenced, was caught on several videos and shows a large ball of flame cutting across large segments of spectators and athletes.

The attack which has been claimed by the Ambazonian Governing Council of Ayaba Cho Lucas, has been widely condemned both nationally and internationally.

The UK diplomat also joined his thousands of others to wish the victims of the attack a quick recovery:

“We wish those injured a speedy recovery,” concluded the High Commissioner who is also the Non Resident High Commissioner to Gabon and Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea.
