The Speaker of Cameroon’s National Assembly, Honorable Cavayé Yeguie Djibril has brought together members of Government from the Far North Region in a move towards lasting peace.

The reunion by the House Speaker aims to seek peaceful solutions for the intertribal clashes between the Mousgoums and the Choa Arabs community in the Far North Region.

The conflict has caused the deaths of hundreds of natives of these communities and displaced thousands of others to neighboring countries.

The Far North elites were gathered in Maroua by the House Speaker, where they had the opportunity to talk out issues amongst them face to face and seek ways to ease tensions.

The elites present at the gathering included traditional rulers, religious leaders, and some Government dignitaries.

The meeting has been widely criticized by some civil society actors. According to many, the conflict between the two tribes should be solved on the ground, and not in VIP lounges.

Others have proposed that the government must help people who have fled from their homes to return, and also to end the illegal fishing process which stands at the center of the conflict between the tribes.
