Different reports have surfaced regarding the release of Nicholas Nkongho Manchang, the Divisional Officer (DO) of Bamenda II Subdivision, who was kidnapped along with five others. Amidst the video evidence that supports the claim of his freedom, the story becomes perplexing as Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique and the DO himself make contradictory statements.

Governor Lele Lafrique declared during a public address in Dunga Mantung that the military swiftly carried out President Paul Biya’s instructions, resulting in the Divisional Officer’s release. The governor’s message is creating quite a stir because it suggests that top government officials have put together a well-organized plan to ensure Manchang’s release.

However, in another video that has emerged, Manchang describes his escape, crediting it to “divine intervention.” As per the report, he successfully embarked on a 10-hour trek to secure his freedom. The conflicting account has left the public uncertain about the actual circumstances surrounding his release.

In a puzzling twist, Governor Lele Lafrique has confirmed that the five individuals who were taken hostage by the Divisional Officer are still being held captive. This development has raised a lot of unanswered questions, particularly regarding the various outcomes for the captives and the governor’s assertion that President Biya’s directives were crucial in securing Manchang’s release.

The lingering uncertainty prompts a closer investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Divisional Officer’s escape from captivity while his companions remain in the hands of the kidnappers. The governor asserted that presidential directives had a real influence on his release, but Manchang claimed that it was the result of his own willpower and perhaps some divine intervention.

In addition, the conflicting narratives raise the question of whether the security forces would have taken action to ensure the release of the captives without direct instructions from President Biya. Should the military intervene solely based on presidential orders, it raises concerns regarding the impartiality and effectiveness of law enforcement in addressing such crises.

The release of Nicholas Nkongho Manchang continues to be a topic of uncertainty and raises concerns about the transparency of government actions in addressing security challenges, leaving Cameroonians eagerly awaiting answers about the exact circumstances surrounding the release of the kidnapped DO. As more information becomes available, the community’s scepticism grows and they are calling for a comprehensive investigation into the conflicting reports surrounding this widely publicised abduction.
