“Those who think I do not deserve the key handed to me in Limbe should come to Ntarikon and take it.The chiefs did not give me the key. For now, I know myself as an honorary citizen of Limbe”.
This is the reaction of the chairman of the Social Democratic Front SDF on the call by chiefs of Limbe Chiefdom for the withdrawal of the Key handed to him by the paramount chief elect of Limbe last week.
Ni John Fru Ndi was speaking at his Ntarikon residence in Bamenda this Tuesday June 18th 2019. To him,the fourteen chiefs of Limbe who wrote a petition did not give him the key and thus it is not logical demanding for it.
The leaders of the SDF went ahead enumerating how he has been handed keys of several cities out of Cameroon namely California in USA and the city of Lile in France. He regrets that despite all these honour abroad, he is not respected in his country, Cameroon.
To Ni John Fru Ndi, the contestation of the honour given to him by the paramount chief elect of Limbe, John Elufa Manga Williams by the fourteen chiefs of Limbe chiefdom is a sign of disrespect to his person.
“Let the contesting chiefs go to court and ask for the withdrawal of the key or constitute themselves in a delegation and come to Bamenda and ask for the key. I can only accept to go to Limbe and hand over the key if the paramount chief elect who gave me the key ask for it.” He added.
In a strongly worded release issued Monday June 17, fourteen chiefs of Limbe called on the paramount chief elect to withdraw the symbolic key of friendship handed to Ni John Fru Ndi during a visit to Limbe last week.
To the disgruntled chiefs, the paramount chief elect has no ministerial confirmation to offer the key to any one. They say their reaction is purely traditional and not politically motivated.
