Controversy over killing of Bamenda bakery operator

The death of a bakery co-owner in Bamenda, North West region last night has raised controversy over who the perpetrators of the act are.

Reports say Erico as he was known attempted to resist being taken away by armed men when he was shot dead.

Both parties in the prolonged four-year-long Anglophone armed conflict have since pointed accusing fingers at each other as has often been the case.

While some say Erico was killed by separatist fighters, others say the story is not what it seems.

“He was killed by the military. He was together with my brother few minutes before he was killed. They were preparing to get bread that they’ll sell today at various parks when the military came to arrest him for no reason” testifies an inhabitant of Bamenda who opted to remain anonymous.

Erico, he adds, “… wasn’t resisting. He wanted to atleast inform people he was being arrested before the military shot him”.

“The military came moments later and arrested everyone in that bakery and we are still to know their whereabouts” he adds.

Mimi Mefo Info at the moment cannot authenticate any of the claims by both sides.

Government forces and separatist fighters it should be recalled have often been indicted for different rights abuses in the minority English speaking regions including extrajudicial killings, torture and extortion.
