At least 30 people have been killed in Cote D’ivoire by torrential rains that has continued to lash the country. The death toll is expected to rise as rescue workers continue to search for survivors.
The rains have been falling since the beginning of April, and they have caused flooding and landslides in several parts of the country. The worst-hit area has been Abidjan, the former capital, where 22 people have died.
The rains have also caused widespread damage to property. Homes and businesses have been flooded, and roads have been washed away.
The government has declared a state of emergency in several parts of the country, and rescue workers are working to evacuate people from flooded areas.
The rains are expected to continue for the next few months and the government has warned people to stay safe.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of life caused by the torrential rains. We are working to provide assistance to the victims and their families. We urge people to stay safe and to follow the instructions of the authorities.”
It is because of this rainy season that the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled to take place in June-July 2023 was postponed to January-February 2024.
