Covid-19: 158.400 Johnson and Johnson One-Shot Vaccines arrive Cameroon

The government of Cameroon has received the first contingent of the Johnson and Johnson Vaccine. The contingent made up of 158.400 of the vaccines was received recently at the Yaounde Nsimalen International airport.

The vaccines manufactured in South Africa are being supplied to African Union member countries through a coordinated platform.

According to the Director of the Central African Bureau of the UN Economic Community for Central Africa, Anthonio Pedro, the essence of the EU’s networking initiative is to find solutions to acquire these vaccines.

Cameroonian authorities are urging the public to get vaccinated against COVID-19, following the arrival of 158,400 Johnson & Johnson doses.

Cameroonians can now choose between the Chinese Sinopharm, Oxford-AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson jabs, but vaccine hesitancy remains high.

Cameroon’s minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachie says civilians should consider Johnson & Johnson as another life-saving vaccine.

The Central African country has received more than a million doses since April, but less than 25 percent of the vaccines have been dispensed.

This month, Cameroon approved the sale of a herbal remedy from Samuel Kleda, a Roman Catholic bishop in the Central African state.

The government however said the recipe is a supplementary aid to fighting coronavirus infections and not a cure for COVID-19.
