President Paul Biya has decreed an official burial for Cameroon’s business tycoon Pascal Monkam.
In a decree signed Monday, April 5, 2021, President Paul Biya states that the burial will take place this Saturday, April 10th.
The decree of president Paul Biya comes hours after the governor of the West region, Awa Fonka Augustine had earlier issued a decision suspending all funeral ceremonies for two months renewable.
Governor Awa Fonka Augustine states that burials and other ceremonies can take place with at most 50 people to permit the strict respect of the COVID-19 preventive measure of physical distancing .He has instructed municipal authorities, traditional rulers, forces of law and order and administrative authorities to ensure strict respect of the order.
An order, observers say, will definitely not be respected this Saturday in the course of an official burial of the businessman Pascal Monkam in his Bakassa village, Haute-Nkam division in the West region.
Cases of COVID-19 have been on the rise in the past weeks with administrative authorities determined to curb the spread through sensitization on the respect of preventive measures.
